One sunny morning in Paris, I woke up with the title, “King of the World” It was as amazing as it sounded, and I was proud I was elected. I thought it was the job where you boss people around, and make up your own rules. But, it was much more than that.
My job was to pick up one world problem each day and figure out how to solve that problem or at least reduce it, so my loyal citizens will follow, in order to decrease the situation.
Today, I chose the problem of water pollution, because every single day, about 2 million tons of trash is being discharged into the water! Can you believe only 3% of Earth’s water is fresh! The rest is polluted! All citizens of Earth (including me) had to start helping this planet if we wanted water pollution to stop.
From what I have researched so far, one of the solutions to stop water pollution is a easy one all of us can surely do; don’t leave the water running when you’re washing your hands, brushing your teeth, etc. This simple act can save 3 or 4 gallons of water per person!
Another solution is don’t discard paper, towels, or any other type of junk down the toilet drain. This can clog the drains, making chemicals go into freshwater, causing water pollution. This is why you should throw it away in the right manner.
The last solution I found was to never pollute water bodies like ponds, lakes, streams, rivers, and seas. Instead, find ways to dispose of trash properly.
As King of the World, I want you to do these things, or research other ways to stop water pollution. Water helps us in various ways and stopping water pollution would be our way of saying “thank you” back to water.
