Whoosh. The glowing red ball flew in the air and landed on the hard ground with a loud thump. One of the fielders, which was my dad, picked up the ball and tossed it back to the bowler. The bowler threw the ball to the batter, who hit the ball with his bat across the field. “Well played!” shouted the bowler, clapping his hands. The batter gave a little smile behind his helmet to show his thankfulness. “Venkat, will you bat now?” the batter asked my dad, taking off his helmet and wiping sweat off his forehead. “Yeah, I will. Just one minute because I have to put on some roller skating equipment for my daughter to skate. The batter nodded and started discussing the game today with a fielder.
My dad and I walked across the wide, open ground to get to the parking lot. “Daddy, do you think we can go to the park anytime soon?” I asked, placing my dad’s team cap on my head. “Yeah, if we bat first. But if we bowl, then maybe not.” my dad said, panting. “Oh ok,” I said, tightening my ponytail. As we reached the car, my dad took my roller skating equipment out and started placing it on me.
In the meantime, my dad’s captain and some other teammates started arriving. Once my dad was finished putting the equipment and I started to skate, he headed over to the canopy that was set up by his team. Over there, he was talking and cracking jokes that everyone laughed to.
In the meanwhile, I was roller skating in the nearby parking lot. As I was enjoying it, my foot started hurting due to the tightness of the skate. Because I didn’t know how to loosen it, I called my dad to come over, but he didn’t respond. Hence I shouted loudly one more time; my dad was forced to come. He came over and fixed up my skate, but as he was going to head back, the match had started and it was my dad’s turn. “Aditi, take off your gear and sit under the canopy with the team.” my dad told me. I nodded as my dad took his bat and walked away. If he was wearing his jear and had a bat, that meant they were batting. I skated until the grass and then sat down to remove my skates. After I removed my equipment, I left it there and headed to the canopy. One of my dad’s teammates offered a chair to me and I took a seat.
A few minutes later, my dad came back taking off his helmet disappointedly. He had been late for warm up this morning and due to that, I think, he didn’t play as well as he usually does. He took a seat and discussed with his teammates how bad he had played. After he was done talking and got some rest, he said, “Aditi, we can go to the park for a while now that my turn is over.”
“Okay!” I said happily. I took my stuff and waved goodbye to my dad’s team. As we drove in the car, I thought about the fun time I had today at the game.
