A Winters Day

August 18, 2022

It was a sunny, joyful morning, as the sun peeked over the horizon, sharing its rays of joy with everyone. Beams of sunlight fell through my window, to brighten me up for a new day. I squinted through my eyes and blinked a few times. I didn’t want to wake up, but all I wanted to do was cuddle with my soft blankets. I heard the rattling of the dishes my mom was cleaning in the kitchen. I finally sat up in my bed and looked outside the window. There were layers of white, fluffy stuff on rooftops and roads. No, it can’t be. I thought. I quickly jumped out of bed and went out into the balcony. It was freezing. I managed, but I was right. “It snowed,” I whispered to myself, a smile spreading across my face. I ran inside to tell my mom. “Mummy, it snowed!” I almost yelled.

She gave a little sweet smile and said, “I saw, Aditi. It’s really nice. I’m quite amazed.”

I ran back out to look at the snow more closely. I knew I didn’t wear my gloves but I picked up a handful of snow and felt it. I rubbed between my hands and laughed softly. I was so happy. I ran back inside, to record a video of me experimenting.

After a while, my dad came out of his room, and asked me, “Aditi, would you like to walk in the snow for fun?”

“Of course!” I replied. I ran to grab my puffy, pink jacket and I pulled my hoodie on. I didn’t have boots, so I wore some hiking shoes. As my dad and I stepped outside, the chilly breeze welcomed us outside. “Careful. The stairs are slippery. Hold onto the railing if you need to,” my dad said. I nodded. I stepped on the first step and realised it was slippery.  We walked down the staircase together, and I laughed when I saw the snow. I hopped down the last step and ran to walk into the snow. “Wow!” I laughed.

I walked slowly, making big footsteps. Suddenly, after two minutes, I was cold and tired. “Can we go back up, Daddy?” I asked. He laughed. “Yes, we were only here for two minutes.”

We headed back up the stairs and right as we came in, my mom said, “Already back, Aditi?”

“Yes,” I replied, panting. My dad told my mom what had happened. She laughed too.

Honestly, I had to laugh myself. Today was going to be a wonderful winter day.

Wow, really liked the way of portraying a simple subject in a pleasant way. Keep going 🙂
