It was seven o’clock on a humid Saturday morning. The sun peeked over the horizon slowly, and the gentle breeze made the spring trees sway side to side. The streets were empty; cars rarely passed by. I was in my Toyota Highlander, yawning continuously because of my early rise.
My dad was in the driver’s seat, pumped and ready to go for his game. We were going to his cricket match which was going to be for six hours. Thinking of that thought made me yawn while playing my Scrabble Twist.
Soon enough our car approached the cricket ground, with cricketers warming up with squats, pushups, lunges, and head as well as arm rolls. They were all wearing their team jerseys with pride, and the determination to win this thirty over match with an excellent victory and sportsmanship. My dad got out of the car, and opened the trunk of the car to grab his cricket bag with all the supplies needed for the game. He closed the trunk and opened my door, gesturing me to get out of the car, which I did after whining and yawning and stretching. I ran over to the field with my dad until something caught my eye. It was the cutest things in the world; two zuchon puppies who were playing with each other happily. One puppy followed by the name, Milo. He had a dark, black fur coat and long bangs which covered his eyes. The other puppy’s name was Balu, who had a fluffy white coat and had extremely adorable hair which also covered his eyes. At first sight of them, I raced towards the puppies and started soaking my hands into their long, deep fur, which felt like a thousand of the world’s fluffiest pillows all stacked into one whole pillow. The puppies twirled around me and licked my hands and my white joggers. I giggled as I enjoyed the experience. The owner of the dogs, Anu Uncle, was my dad’s friend and cricket teammate, and he said to me, “I’m so glad you’re here! Now you can take care of my puppies while I’m playing!”
I was stunned! I was so excited to spend two hours with the puppies! Immediately, Anu Uncle gave me the dogs’ leash, and the two puppies, Milo and Balu, started with a morning jog. They jumped up and started racing to the gate which led out of the cricket ground. I ran along with them until I stood still, planted my feet in the ground, and made them stop. They tried to move further, but I stood there like a tree, its roots digging deep into the ground. The puppies looked around to give me a stern stare for a millisecond, and instantly started jogging the other way. In the meantime, the match had started. My dad’s team was batting first, and the other team was bowling. As the dogs were, what I thought was playing around, I saw my dad bat, and the ball went high in the air, landing on the ground, and hitting four runs immediately, before the fielder could throw it back to the bowler to make my dad get out as batter. His team was cheering for him loudly, filled with pride and happiness. I quickly gazed at the puppies to see it. Green and brown mixed together, bits of food on it, crumpled in between the gooey substance, it was worse in real life than in the emoji. Instead of playing, Milo and Balu had done their business. I almost puked at the sight of it, and lured the puppies away from the awful thing.
I soon sat down in a chair, tired of running around. The puppies had lay down beside me, almost asleep, until whoosh! A water bottle had almost hit Milo’s head. Gladly, it didn’t. But, it was from the other team who for some reason threw it near Milo and Balu. I was so mad! I could feel my blood heating up and my heart beating faster and faster and it almost jumped out of my chest. They didn’t apologize or look back at me. I was so joyful that it didn’t hit the puppies. Soon, Anu Uncle came back from the game and the puppies were asleep. He thanked me quietly for taking care of the puppies and I walked off to my dad to talk about how he had done in the game, and how I enjoyed the puppies.
